Senior Assistant Grower Job Description
Three Sisters Garden Project is a non-profit organization and community farm with a mission to increase access to local, fresh, and healthy food for everyone in our community. We use organic farming practices (but are not certified) to grow a wide variety of vegetables on 4 acres for our 150-member CSA, restaurant sales and our food access program, which includes subsidized shares and donations to local food pantries. We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Assistant Grower to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants looking to gain substantive experience and build skills in pursuit of future farm management. This position will work closely with the Farm Manager, and alongside amazing staff and volunteers on a beautiful piece of land.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assisting with all aspects of farm work, including but not limited to: seeding, transplanting, irrigation management, fertilization, cultivation, CSA and wholesale harvest & distribution
Leading farm crew during seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, and other projects
Greenhouse management: propagation, watering, and monitoring conditions
Washing and packing produce for CSA and wholesale accounts
Assist with tractor work, including mechanical cultivation, and general maintenance
Maintaining equipment, fencing, and infrastructure
Additional projects based on need and interest
Engaging with CSA shareholders, volunteers, and other visitors
Desired Qualifications:
A minimum of two years of organic vegetable production or other farming experience
Experience with tractors and basic equipment operation
Interest in and understanding of organic and sustainable farming methods
Comfortable supervising & leading crew and volunteers
Must be able to work efficiently and possess a strong work ethic
Ability to lift 50 lbs and ensure self and others are working safely
Must be able to work long days in variable weather conditions
Detail-oriented and proactive in improving systems
Works well independently and as part of a team
Has strong communication skills, a sense of personal accountability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to receive constructive feedback
Reliable transportation
Compensation:
Compensation is a weekly stipend between $600-$640 per week, DOE. This stipend is calculated based on $15-$16/hr at 40 hrs/week, and is intended to give staff a more reliable, consistent income in this seasonal position with variable hours

This seasonal position will be from April through October (part time hours in Nov/Dec possible) The Senior Assistant Grower will typically work 40 hrs/week with less hours at the start and end of the season. Hours are generally 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, with paid mid-morning break and an unpaid hour lunch break. Participation in weekend watering rotation duty when needed is required.
