Order Packing/Self-Serve Farm Stand Assistant

The Neighborhood Farm is small, all natural vegetable farm right outside of Boston. We grow vegetables, herbs, cut flowers and seedlings for farmers markets, our CSA, and our on site farm stand. We grow a little bit of everything, but we're best known for our many varieties of specialty garlic, endless heirloom tomatoes, and thousands of seedlings.

Like many farms, we moved a lot of our sales online during 2020.  For the 2021 season we are maintaining our online store and are looking for someone to pack orders and help out with our self serve farm stand (set up, stocking, breakdown). We grow and market year round, and so preference is given to candidates able to work at least through the fall.

Responsibilities:
Work closely with Farm Stand Manager to satisfy day-to-day order fulfillment
Pack and organize customer produce orders in walk-in cooler on farm with a close eye to quality, accuracy, and detail
Assist in gathering plant orders, as needed
Assist in setup and breakdown of Self-Serve Farm Stand and Pre-Order Pick Ups, as needed
Assess produce and seedling quality during packing and setup
Assist in maintenance and completion of inventory, both daily and weekly
Ensure clean work spaces in the packing areas, e.g., cooler, greenhouse etc., at the end of every work day
Opportunity to participate in other farm related tasks as seasonal flow and workload allow, including: watering, greenhouse work, transplanting, harvesting.
Schedule: Hours may fluctuate as the season progresses with changing start and end times. Both weather and order amounts can modify our work hours at different points of the season.
Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00-3:30

At present, packing assistance is only needed Wednesday-Saturday, but will expand to Tuesdays in peak season. An interested candidate could work on and learn other introductory farm tasks on Tuesdays at the start of the position.

Qualifications:
Experience handling and assessing produce quality, working on a vegetable production farm, or grocery setting is helpful, but not required
Reliable, quick learner, attention to detail, and the ability to be flexible for changing priorities
Ability to work independently and stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift and carry heavy items; 50lbs+
Ability to work in various temperatures and weather conditions
Strong communication skills, work ethic, and positive attitude

Compensation starts at $14/hour and is based on experience level, willingness to assume responsibility, and commitment for the season. Crew members also get lots of vegetables, seedlings and flowers from the farm.
