New Entry is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented, part-time,
temporary staff member to serve as the Conference Planning Coordinator. New
Entry is hosting their 2nd Community Food Systems Conference in early 2019.
The first was Dec 5-7, 2017 in Boston, MA. The conference will address common
underlying themes between food security, social justice and sustainable
agriculture including obstacles in urban and rural environments and fostering
community empowerment to create and sustain resilient local food systems. We
will provide space for conversations around promoting, facilitating, and
supporting self-reliance; breaking down barriers to racial and economic
justice; connecting communities to their food sources; and impacting
communities at the local and regional level through sustainable land use, food
production and distribution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Conference Planning Coordinator will support a variety of conference
planning activities including:
- Sponsorship outreach – prepare sponsorship packet, solicit sponsors, and
secure funds;
- Maintain and update conference website;
- Manage registration system (EventBrite or similar);
- Participation in monthly Conference Planning committee calls;
- Support with Request for Proposals – help draft the Request for Proposals to
solicit workshop session proposals, assist in reviewing and scoring workshop
proposals;
- Scholarship Coordinator – prepare scholarship application, review process,
communicate with scholarship recipients;
- Liaise with host organization and partners;
- Create signage and print materials as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail;
- Previous conference/event planning experience strongly desired;
- Knowledge of community food projects or food security programming desired;
- Demonstrated interest in engaging in issues of equity, inclusion, and
dismantling racism, particularly in regards to food systems;
- Experience with outreach, social media, e-newsletters, and marketing
preferred;
- Comfortable working independently, as well as with a team;
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Experience with standard computer software (MS Office, Social Media,
Salesforce CRM, website content development, graphic design, and Excel
database).
COMPENSATION
This position will be paid an hourly rate of $15/hour. We seek to hire someone
as soon as possible (ideally by 3/5/18) and the position will end April 30,
2019 to allow time for post-conference wrap up activities. Time commitment
will be 10 hours/week through August 2018 then there will be an increase to 20
hours/week September 2018-March 2019, where you will then be offered a
generous benefits package, and 40 hours the week before and week of the
conference.
