MAIN SEASON FIELD CREW
Job Details and Responsibilities: Field Crew employees are involved in a wide variety of tasks on the farm. A majority of the work entails harvesting, washing, packing, and distributing farm produce. The job also includes greenhouse and field planting, field chores like mulching and trellising, irrigation set-up, general farm clean-up and upkeep, and occasional animal chores. All Field Crew participate in hoeing and hand weeding, often for several hours a day during the summer months. Field Crew may be trained in the use and maintenance of farm tractors and equipment, depending on skills and interest.
Job Schedule: Work begins in mid-May and continues until mid-October. The full-time work schedule is Monday through Friday 6am-5pm, plus 2-3 Saturdays a month, 6am-1:15pm. In May and October, the full schedule slightly includes fewer hours, an adjustment for seasonal work demands. The daily work schedule includes 1-2 unpaid breaks of 30 minutes to 1 hour, determined by the farm owners.
Skills and qualifications: Field Crew will have some farm experience, and demonstrated stamina for long outdoor work days in variable weather conditions. A valid driver’s license is required. The position requires heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds) and repetitive work. The work is repetitive and very fast paced – speed and attention-to-detail are required skills for the Field Crew.
Wages & compensation: The 2019 starting wage is $13.50 per hour. Benefits include a share of farm produce, farm shop discount, paid sick time, paid holiday premium, annual field gear and professional development stipends, potential for annual bonus. Long-term employees will have the option to participate in our matching IRA. Farm housing is not available.
