Good Roots Farm, a small certified organic vegetable farm in Lincoln, MA, is seeking part-time and full-time assistant growers for the 2016 season. Both full- and part-time positions will help with all aspects of vegetable and herb production, including seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, packing, and farm maintenance tasks. In addition, the assistant growers will help manage the stand at one or more farmers’ markets. The part-time positions will be focused on harvesting and market preparation. The assistant growers will learn many features of operating a small organic farm producing food for market, including soil fertility management, weed and pest control, and marketing, while being a valuable part of a growing local food system.
Requirements:
- Some farm experience necessary for the full-time position.
- An interest in sustainable agriculture and a desire to learn.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability and willingness to do hard physical labor in all weather conditions.
Compensation:
Pay is $10 per hour plus vegetables from the farm. The assistant growers are encouraged to attend workshops and tours organized by the Eastern Massachusetts Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (EMassCRAFT).
Hours:
The full-time position will be 20 to 40 hours per week, depending on time of year. The season is from April into late October, with start and end dates negotiable. The part-time positions will be 10 to 20 hours per week. The season is from late May into October, with start and end dates negotiable.
