Assistant Manager Job Description

Three Sisters Garden Project is a non-profit organization and community farm with a
mission to increase access to fresh, high quality local produce for everyone in our
community. We grow diversified vegetables following organic standards (but are not
certified) on 3 acres for our 170-member CSA, as well as for our food access partnerships
and programs, and a limited amount of wholesale accounts. We will be gradually
expanding production to an additional 2-3 acres over the next two years. For more

We are seeking a full time Assistant Manager to join our farm team. This position will
work collaboratively with the Farm Manager (FM). This is an excellent opportunity for
applicants looking to gain substantive experience and build skills in pursuit of future farm
management.

Primary Responsibilities
● Assisting FM with all aspects of farm management, including but not limited to:
crop production, greenhouse management, crew supervision, CSA distribution,
marketing and promotion, recordkeeping
● Leading and supervising the farm crew, workshares, and volunteers during
seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, and other field work
● Greenhouse management: sowing, watering, and monitoring conditions daily
● Washing and packing produce for CSA and deliveries
● Assisting with tractor work, including field preparation and mechanical cultivation
● Setting up and maintaining equipment, irrigation, fencing, and infrastructure
● Working with, providing guidance to, and creating a welcoming and friendly
environment for CSA shareholders, volunteers, neighbors, and other visitors

Desired Qualifications
● 2-4 years of organic vegetable production or other farming experience, with
demonstrated leadership roles
● Experience organizing and supervising a team safely and productively, and
providing training and feedback when needed
● Experience operating tractors and other mechanical equipment

● Willingness and desire to take ownership over assigned areas of responsibility and
to improve existing systems to be more efficient and effective
● Ability to both follow and communicate verbal and written instructions with a
keen attention to detail and time management
● Ability to cope with, and practice emotional management in, a fast-paced work
environment with fluctuating demands on time and energy
● Self-motivation to work efficiently and maintain a steady, balanced workflow in
all weather conditions
● Strong communication skills, a sense of personal accountability, a welcoming and
positive attitude, and a willingness to receive constructive feedback
● Interest in working with Three Sisters beyond the 2021 season

Compensation
● Compensation is $16/hour at an average of 40 hours per week
● Farm produce and flowers, plus discounts on bought-in produce and value added
products
● 5 paid personal/vacation days
● Sick time as accrued by MA law
● Opportunity to participate in biweekly CRAFT meetings
● Unfortunately, on-farm housing is not provided

This seasonal position will be from mid-March/early April through December; start and
end time slightly flexible, with a possibility of additional winter hours. A typical work
week is Monday-Friday from 7 am-4 pm with an unpaid hour lunch break, and rotating

weekend greenhouse watering duty. The Assistant Manager will typically work 40-50
hrs/week with fewer hours at the start and end of the season.
