Good Roots Farm, a small sustainable vegetable farm in Lincoln, MA, is seeking an assistant grower and two apprentices for the 2014 season. The assistant grower and the apprentices will help with all aspects of vegetable and herb production, including seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, packing, and farm maintenance tasks. In addition, the assistant grower will help manage the stand at one or more farmers’ markets.
All workers will learn many features of operating a small organic farm producing food for market, including soil fertility management, weed and pest control, and marketing, while being a valuable part of a growing local food system.
Requirements:
- An interest in sustainable agriculture.
- Desire to learn.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability and willingness to do hard physical labor in all weather conditions.
Compensation:
The pay is $10 per hour plus some vegetables from the farm for the assistant grower position. Apprentices will receive a small stipend at the end of the season and vegetables from the farm. Both positions are encouraged to attend workshops and tours organized by the Eastern Massachusetts Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (EMassCRAFT), and other educational opportunities that may arise.
Hours:
Both positions are 10-20 hours per week. Must be available for harvests on market days, which are to be determined. The season will begin in May and last into October, with start and end dates negotiable.
