Gaining Ground hiring two apprenticeship positions for 2016

Gaining Ground farm is looking for two full-time seasonal farm apprentices.. We are a five acre nonprofit farm in Concord, MA.  Our mission is to grow organic food for hunger relief with the help of volunteers of all ages and abilities. All of our produce goes to food pantries and meal programs in the Lowell, metro-West & Boston area.

The apprenticeship season is April 15- October 15th, on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.  Apprentices will average  40 hours per week throughout the season. 

The position will work directly with Gaining Ground’s farm managers, and responsibilities will include: greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, harvesting in all weather conditions.  All applicants must be comfortable working with people as the Gaining Ground crew works with volunteers every work day during the season.  Apprentices must be comfortable leading groups of varying numbers, ages, and abilities.  An interest in hunger relief and farm education is a must for this apprenticeship.

Education includes; weekly field walks, containing a plan for the week’s work, observations, pest and disease troubleshooting, CRAFT visits, and a packet with our  seeding charts and field plans.  Crew members are encouraged to take on individualized projects of interest during the season.  

Compensation: Starting at $12/hour.  One year experience working in agriculture required.   No housing offered.
