Hutchins Farm in Concord Mass is hiring for Field Crew positions for the 2021 season - we are one of the oldest certified organic vegetable and fruit operations in Massachusetts. Organic since 1973, Hutchins grows over 40 acres of vegetables, about an acre of small fruit, and 8 acres of apples. We sell our produce directly to consumers at our farm stand in Concord, MA, and at three weekly farmers’ markets, with a tiny amount of sales to local restaurants.
Hutchins Farm is seeking motivated individuals with an interest in farming, gardening, food, or just working outside, to work in our production fields this season. Farming experience is nice, but not necessary. Some help will be needed as early as April, but most hands will be needed in May or early June through the end of October—individuals who can stay for three or more months will be given preference.
The work will vary, but will include: planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing a wide variety of vegetables and small fruit. Workers may also be involved in greenhouse work, grounds maintenance, sales in our Farm Stand or at Farmers’ Markets, irrigation, or other aspects of the operation based on the farm’s needs and the worker’s inclination.
Workers will be expected to work 5 days per week, and must work at least one weekend day. The workday starts at 7am and usually goes until 4 or 5pm, with an unpaid hour for lunch. Hourly pay begins at $13.50/hour with a $0.50 per-hour-worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of a time commitment agreement, plus free vegetables from the farm. There is potential for increases for longer term workers based on their performance and the overall performance of the farm. Applicants should be able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly. Housing is not available.
