For the 2018 season, Land’s Sake Farm in Weston, MA, is looking for two or three enthusiastic, dependable, hard-working, and dynamic folks to join our farm team as our Field Crew. This is a part-time position that will run from around the end of May through the end of August for 3 days a week.
Land’s Sake is a nonprofit dedicated to building meaningful connections between people, the food they eat, and the land. Field Crew members will work closely with the farmers to operate a busy and complex community farm operation. We grow for a 300 member CSA program, farmstand, and a hunger relief contract with the town of Weston. We also occasionally work with volunteers and children in education programs. We strive to make Land’s Sake a welcoming, community-centered farm for all involved, including customers, shareholders, children, volunteers, and staff.
Responsibilities include:
Field work, such as harvesting, planting, and weeding
Miscellaneous tasks, such as tomato staking and tying, fencing, and irrigation
Greenhouse tasks, such as seeding, watering, and potting on
Applicants should be enthusiastic about learning, communication, having fun and working hard. Field crew members are expected to work quickly while maintaining attention to detail. Working efficiently, independently and with a team, are equally important. Field crew can expect to work long hours in all weather conditions; a positive attitude and good sense of humor are essential to this position.
This position is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday scheduling to be discussed. The work day starts at 7:00AM sharp and goes through about 5:00PM. There may be occasional exceptions to end times when we need to complete work before a weather event, and there may be times when we cancel work due to inclement weather. We will give preference to candidates who can commit to working the entirety of the time period from June to September.
Compensation includes:
$12.50/hr, with paid lunch
Free produce from farm and discounts on farmstand goods
Paid sick time, in accordance with Massachusetts law.
Qualifications include a sincere interest in vegetable production, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record, reliable transportation, the ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, and the ability to work for long periods of time in all weather conditions. Previous farm experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
