Brookwood Community Farm is a non-profit farming operation and education
center in Canton and Milton, MA. Brookwood Community Farm (BCF) was founded
in 2006 with the goals of restoring underutilized farmland near Boston,
strengthening the local food system, and addressing the urgent need for
access to healthy food in low-income neighborhoods of Boston. From one acre
of land under cultivation in 2006, the farm has expanded to cultivate eight
acres using organic practices and operate a 300-person Community Supported
Agriculture program.
Apprentices will assist in all aspects of vegetable production including
greenhouse management, planting, cultivation, irrigation management,
harvest, wash and packing, CSA and/or markets management, and tractor work.
Additional responsibilities, such as small project management, will be
delegated depending on need and abilities.
The ideal candidate has 0-2 years of farming experience, interest in
developing their farming and leadership skills, and commitment to BCF’s
mission and purpose. A clean driving record, driver’s license, ability to
safely lift and carry 50 lbs, a positive attitude, attention to detail, and
ability to work efficiently are essential.
Duration: April through October/November (depending on availability),
Tuesday through Saturday, with rotating weekend greenhouse duty. Hours are
7 am -5 pm at the peak of the season, with fewer hours in spring and fall.
Compensation: Starts at $12/hr depending on experience from April/March to
October/November (depending on availability), 5 paid vacation days, 3
personal/sick days, farm produce, participation in bi-weekly CRAFT
sessions, and a $250 educational stipend for use during the season.
