Good Roots Farm Hiring Full- and Part-time Assistant Growers

Good Roots Farm, a small certified organic vegetable farm in Lincoln, MA,
is seeking part-time and full-time assistant growers for the 2018 season.
Good Roots Farm is entering its fifth season growing food. We sell at
local farmers markets and restaurants and will be starting a small CSA
program. We are a mostly hand-powered, low-till operation.

The full-time and part-time assistant grower positions will work closely
with the farmer on all aspects of vegetable production and marketing.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a young farm that is
expanding its markets and experimenting with intensive, no-till growing
practices.

The work will be focused on harvesting and market preparation, routine
farm jobs like seeding, bed preparation, planting, and weeding, and
helping to manage the stand at one or more farmers’ markets.

The assistant growers will learn many features of operating our small
organic farm producing food for market, including soil fertility
management, weed and pest control, and marketing, while being a valuable
part of a growing local food system.

Requirements:

  * Some farming experience preferred but not required.

  * Flexibility and desire to learn all aspects of vegetable production,
including seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, packing, and
    farm maintenance tasks.

  * An interest in sustainable agriculture and a desire to learn.

  * Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

  * Ability and willingness to do hard physical labor in all weather
    conditions.

Compensation:

Hourly pay is $10 to $13 depending on experience, plus vegetables from
the farm. All assistant growers are encouraged to attend workshops and
tours organized by the Eastern Massachusetts Collaborative Regional
Alliance for Farmer Training (EMassCRAFT). A bonus will be provided to
workers who complete the full season. Unfortunately, no housing is
available on the farm.

Hours:

The full-time position will be 30 to 40 hours per week, with fewer hours
at the start and end of the season. The season is from April into late
October, with start and end dates negotiable.

The part-time positions will be 10 to 20 hours per week. The season is
from late May into October, with start and end dates negotiable.
