We are looking for one more crew member for the 2014 growing season.
Colchester Neighborhood Farm is a very unique farm and social enterprise
located on the South Shore, about 45 minutes south of Boston.
We run a 50 member CSA, next season we hope to expand our small retail
operation and wholesale as well. Our farm focuses not only on growing healthy
organic foods, but also working with adults with special needs. It would be
great if you have some farming and or gardening experience, or perhaps even be
majoring in special education or social service. However, it is more important
that you are enthusiastic and energetic about sustainable agriculture and are
open to working with developmentally disabled adults. We are looking for
interns who are eager to learn, and contribute to our unique farm community.
We will be cultivating 2 acres for vegetables in 2014. There are also bees,
pastured laying hens, goats and a donkey; and the opportunity to learn about
working with these animals. There are also many perennial/annual herbs and
flowers.
The internship runs from May through September, but will accommodate your
school schedule. The work week will vary, depending on tasks to be
accomplished; you will always have at least one day a week off. A $125 weekly
stipend will be given, plus a weekly veggie share, bulk grains, rice and other
staple item to be shared by the interns. We are currently working on securing
housing in the community. As housing is located 7 or so miles from farm you
must have a car, be willing to ride in with work crews from the village, or
bicycle to the farm.
