Allandale Farm in MA hiring

Allandale Farm is a 40 acre diversified vegetable farm located in Brookline, MA. We grow produce for our on-site farmstand, our 400+ CSA members, and our restaurant & wholesale clients using traditional organic farming practices.

Harvest Coordinator (35-45 hrs./ week):
The Harvest Coordinator leads harvest teams, does wholesale deliveries, works in the fields with our crew, and helps coordinate post-harvest logistics for our growing wholesale program. This is an excellent opportunity to meet local chefs and gain experience working with all aspects of diversified wholesale vegetable production. Tractor work available for experienced candidates.

Schedule

This is a seasonal position beginning in early April and extending through late October. The Assistant Harvest Manager works 35­-45 hours per week, with the option of Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Saturdays off. Sundays are half days (7AM­-12:30PM).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in agricultural production
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to safely drive a Freightliner Sprinter Van
  • Ability to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
  • Spanish language proficiency required
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency a plus
  • Tractor operating experience a plus
  • Ability to operate manual transmission a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Translate daily chef orders into accurate harvest lists using Microsoft Excel
  • Deliver produce orders to wholesale customers three times per week
  • Lead team of crew members through morning harvest activities
  • Assist with other vegetable production work as schedule allows
  • Assist with tractor work as experience allows

 

Compensation:

Starting wage is $10-­$12.50 per hour, depending on experience.

 

Wholesale Coordinator (30-35 hrs./ week):

The Wholesale Coordinator manages the daily logistics of our wholesale program. S/he maintains communication with our 30+ valued wholesale clients, and performs targeted outreach to new chefs and grocers in our delivery areas. Additionally, s/he helps with produce deliveries and designs weekly newsletters to our 400+ CSA members. No field work.

Schedule:

Monday­Friday, 30-­35 hours per week.This is seasonal position beginning in early May and extending through late October.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Excel, Constant Contact, & Google Docs
  • Strong customer service skills and experience
  • Ability to multi­task and be detail oriented
  • Ability to safely drive a Freightliner Sprinter Van
  • Ability to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
  • Familiarity with Boston & Cambridge restaurants preferred
  • Interest in cooking and local food a plus
  • Spanish proficiency a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain communication and provide excellent customer service to wholesale customers
  • In cooperation with Farm Manager, communicate accurate produce availability to customers via email
  • Generate wholesale invoices
  • Assist in delivering produce orders to wholesale customers three times per week
  • Perform outreach and develop new relationships with local chefs and grocers
  • Design weekly CSA newsletter, complete with recipes, produce info, and news about the farm

Compensation

Starting wage is $12-­$15 per hour, depending on experience.
