Weston, MA: Land's Sake Hiring Stewardship Assistant for Summer 2014

Stewardship Assistant

Land’s Sake is seeking a part-time, seasonal employee to assist with our sustainable land management and stewardship branch. This position will run from the end of May until August with possible work extension into the fall and consist of up to 20 hours of work per week. This job consists primarily of:

--Mowing of fields and trails using a commercial-grade riding mower or farm tractor with mowing deck
--Supporting off-season Forestry Department activities including pruning Christmas trees, preparing for maple syrup production, maintaining firewood stacks, etc.
--Various other stewardship tasks including but not limited to; clearing/moving brush, removing invasive species, maintaining an aesthetic landscape at the main farm and office, and assisting with various jobs around the farm.

Qualifications:

--Experience using equipment such as riding mowers, brush mowers, weed whackers, etc. and experience towing a trailer
--Able to work independently for long days while doing physically demanding work in potentially inclement weather
--High commitment to safety and careful attention to quality
--Able to pass a criminal background test and have a valid driver’s license

Essential skills and abilities:

--Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds at a time over uneven terrain
--Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
--Compensation is $10-12 per hour commensurate with experience, as well as free produce from our farm stand.

Other Helpful Skills:

--Experience using a tractor and/or chainsaw
--Knowledge of small engine maintenance and repair
