Widening the Welcome: The Future of Agriculture for Farmers of Color

On Saturday, November 4, 2017, Hidden Acres Farm, Inc. is proud to host Widening the Welcome: The Future of Agriculture for Farmers of Color at the 224 Ecospace on 224 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. This half-day conference will begin promptly at 9:00 am and end at 1:00 pm.  Featured speakers include Amani Olugbala (Soul Fire Farm, Grafton, NY);  Karen Washington (Rise and Root Farm, Black Urban Growers, Brooklyn/Bronx, NY); Isa Muhajid (CT CORE, New Haven, CT) and Hartford’s own Patricia E. Kelly (Ebony Horsewomen, Inc., Hartford, CT).

“The face of agriculture in this country is changing by leaps and bounds”, observed Michelle Louise Bicking, Executive Director of Hidden Acres Farm, Inc. “We need to be more deliberate  in our efforts to recruit and educate ethnic and religious ‘minority’ groups on the many opportunities that exist in Agriculture.”

Widening the Welcome is open to the general public. Exhibitors of all backgrounds and lived experiences are welcome, with an emphasis on Latinx, First Nations, African American/Black and Asian American Pacific Islander business owners.
