Cultivating Edible Mushrooms with David Weintraub

Mushrooms are a delicious and nutritious fungi that can be easily cultivated on a small scale at home. Local mushroom cultivator David Weintraub of Urban Mycology will explain the fundamentals of home gourmet mushroom cultivation during this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn how to cultivate a variety of mushrooms using common, inexpensive and easy-to-use materials. Workshop activities include a group construction of a “laundry basket” outdoor growing setup and preparing individual sawdust blocks for indoor blue oyster mushroom cultivation at home; additional spawn and substrate materials will be available to make a second block at home. Tuition fee: $30 per person (includes materials for blue oyster mushroom cultivation)
