Weed Crew Positions

Waltham Fields Community Farm
Job Announcement
Weed Crew 2017
Part Time, 20 Hrs/Week

Waltham Fields Community Farm seeks members for our 2017 Weed Crew.
WFCF is a non-profit organization running a mixed vegetable farm & educational and food access programs just outside of Boston.  We adhere strictly to organic methods to manage fifteen acres of farmland.  The weed crew will work to support our farming operation, helping to supply food for our 465-share CSA, community members in need, and for various public events throughout the season.  WFCF is committed to equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate based on race, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or religion.

The Work:  The 4 person Weed Crew will focus mainly on hoeing and hand-weeding to maintain crop health and facilitate ease of harvest.  Each Friday, our weed crew leads and works side by side with farm volunteers.  As such, this position suits people who can work in large group settings but are also able to maintain motivation, pace and focus working as part of a small core team.
Qualifications:  We seek individuals who are mature, enthusiastic and able to do fast-paced, detail-oriented physical work, who love to be outside, and do not mind getting dirty.  A sense of humor is a definite plus. Applicants should be able to sustain focus through repetitive tasks, work outside in all weather conditions and have a reliable form of transportation in all weather conditions. Previous experience is not required but attention to detail and dedication to work are important qualities. This position is well suited for people with team sport or restaurant experience, recent high school grads or those with a budding interest in sustainable agriculture. An on-farm interview is required.
Compensation: $12/hr plus produce from the farm.  Staff also receives a discount at our farm store.

Hours/Dates: Monday-Friday, 8am-Noon, May 22nd -August 25th plus Saturday June 24th and Saturday July 22rd as part of our Crop Mob events. Another day off will be given the week preceding or proceeding the event to compensate for this. Must be available to commit to full 14 week period. In the case of extreme weather, there may not be work available for all or part of the day.

To Apply:  Please send a resume & brief cover letter detailing your interest or qualifications for the position to Erinn Roberts, Farm Manager at erinn@communityfarms.org
