Program Manager – Union Square Main Streets

Union Square Main Street (USMS), an established non-profit that works collaboratively with local businesses, the community and the city to actively support a vibrant neighborhood by preserving the character and advancing the economic strength of Union Square in Somerville, seeks a full time Program Manager (PM) to join our growing and active organization.

Job Description:

Working in close coordination with the Executive Director (ED), the PM will oversee the operations, administration and outreach for the Union Square Farmers Market, the promotion and communications for all USMS events, including the Market, and will assist with planning and operations of other USMS events, including the Fluff Festival, the Holiday Stroll and 2nd Saturdays.

Job Duties:

Farmers Market Management

The Market runs from mid-May through the third week in November every Saturday from 9AM – 1 PM.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·       All aspects of vendor recruitment and relationship management

·       Oversight  and management of all market operations, including market set up and breakdown onsite throughout the market

·       Review, oversight and enforcement of all Market rules

·       Oversight of all planning efforts, including city permitting, parking accommodations, and bringing activities to the market to increase market participation

·       Ensuring accurate and efficient financial management. 

·       All Market-related administrative tasks, including bookkeeping, maintaining all records, billing and payment processing, map layout and weekly schedules

·       Developing and maintaining volunteer recruitment and management processes and tools

·       Oversight of Market promotion and outreach, including social media, website and all other promotional efforts

·       Building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, local businesses and community.

Other Events

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·       Oversight of communications through regular maintenance of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and bi-weekly newsletter

·       Outreach and promotion of events, including promotional materials, press and event listings

·       Management of event logistics, including set-up and break-down  and recruitment and oversight of businesses, vendors and volunteers

·       Seeing program and project logistics and operations to completion, and engaging in evaluation measures

·        Leveraging resources to develop relationships with broader community and like organizations, to expand reach of the organization

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•                     Project management experience

•                     Experience with QuickBooks, MS Office applications, and web-based applications

•                     Communications  and outreach experience, particularly with social media

•                     Event planning experience a plus

•                     Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

•                     Detail-oriented and responsible

•                     Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

•                     Excellent organizational skills, ability to problem solve and meet deadlines

•                     Ability to multi-task

•                     A high degree of personal and professional integrity

•                     Available to work Saturdays throughout Market season

This is a full time year round position at 35 hours per week (with an opportunity for flexible in-office hours) and the expectation of attendance Saturdays throughout the Market season, and occasional attendance at evening meetings or other weekend events. The position is a salaried position with competitive benefits.
