Weston, MA: Land's Sake Farm hiring part-time Weeding Crew

2014 WEEDING CREW JOB DESCRIPTION

Land’s Sake Farm in Weston, MA, is looking for 3 enthusiastic, dependable, hard-working, and pleasant people to join our farm team as Weeding Crew. This is a part-time position that will run from late May to late August for 4 days a week. Your schedule will be Tuesday to Friday from 7:30 AM sharp until 12:30 PM with a paid 20 minute break mid-morning. We will give preference to applicants who can to commit to working the entirety of the time period.

We grow for a good sized CSA program, a very busy farm stand, and a donations contract with the town of Weston. We also work with our education program to create opportunities for volunteers and young community members to have experiences on the farm. We strive to make Land’s Sake a welcoming, community-centered farm for all involved, including customers, shareholders, campers, and staff.

Weeding Crew members will work under the supervision of the full-time farmers to weed, weed, weed out our crops until we can get them to harvest! As a Weeding Crew member, you will be expected to be comfortable (or at least willing and able) weeding for close to five hours straight each morning through rain, heat, bugs, and cold. You will spend much of that time on your hands and knees, with some time spent upright hoeing as well. It is not an easy job but can be very rewarding and enjoyable with the right mindset, and many weeding crew members have enjoyed it so much that it launched them into full-time farming careers! Applicants should be enthusiastic about learning, communication, having fun and working hard, and must be able to work independently as well as with a team.

Weeding Crew members will receive as compensation:

  • $10/hour.
  • worker's compensation.
  • free produce from farm and discounts on other goods sold at the farm stand.

Qualifications:

  • An interest in vegetable production
  • The ability to work for long periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Reliable transportation to get yourself to work
  • Sunny disposition (for those long hours in the field)
