Grower’s Assistant & CSA Manager, The Food Project, Lincoln, MA

The Food Project is seeking a Grower’s Assistant & CSA Manager for the 2018 growing season, from May 29th through November 20th.

Applicants for this position should have high energy for and interest in sustainable agriculture and youth development, as well as a commitment to teamwork. They should also have creative energy for making a difference in the world and a passion for the vision of The Food Project. The Grower’s Assistant & CSA Manager will work on The Food Project’s 30-acre farm in Lincoln, MA, growing and distributing produce through our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program and Farmers' Markets in Boston, and to local hunger relief organizations. On Tuesdays and Thursdays during the CSA season you will be responsible for setting up and taking down our on-farm CSA distribution.

Primary Responsibilities: 

- May - June:

- Farm Work: Harvesting, transplanting, weeding, seeding, washing produce, packing produce

- Leading and teaching volunteer groups

- Manage CSA distributions and end-of-day produce donations

- CSA stand prep, materials ordering, organizing and exporting membership records from our database into Excel

- Communication with CSA members and Site hosts

June - September: 

- Manage CSA distributions set up and take down of farm stand, and end-of-day produce donations

- Assist with daily field operations and greenhouse work

- CSA stand prep, materials ordering, office/computer work

September - November:

- Farm work: harvesting, cultivating, etc.

- Manage CSA distributions and end-of-day produce donations

- Leading and teaching volunteer groups

- Preparing farm for winter season

 

Qualifications:

• Experience organizing produce displays

• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs

• Experience with Excel, data entry and record keeping

• Experience with customer relations

• Experience organizing groups safely and productively

• Experience teaching young people in outdoor setting

• Ability to drive/learn to drive manual pick-up truck

• Experience with/interest in farm equipment.

• On time, Dependable, responsible, independent, and open to learning.

• Willing to work a flexible schedule, which days and hours worked vary by time of season

Compensation - This is a full-time, seasonal position from May 29th – November 20th, 2018, with a salary of $600 per week. Compensation package includes worker's compensation and employer-sponsored health insurance plus a transportation stipend for daily travel to and from the farm (specific amount depends on each employee’s actual costs).
