Farmer’s Market Assistant at Brookwood Community Farm

About You
We are looking for someone to help staff our stand at the Roslindale Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. We are looking for a responsible individual with great customer service skills to help with all aspects of set up, sales, and takedown at market. Retail experience and an interest in cooking/gardening are preferred, though not required. You must be able to follow and give directions, work quickly and efficiently, and keep a smile on your face throughout a long and hectic day. You must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, stand up for 7.5 hours with only one break, and be able to safely lift 40 lbs in any kind of weather. You must be reliable and punctual and have a fantastic attitude. You also must be friendly and committed to great customer service. We see our market customers as members of the Brookwood community, and want to make sure they have a good experience shopping with us.

About the Position
You will work Saturdays June 3rd- Nov 18th 7:00 am-2:30 pm. You may also need to attend a three hour training and orientation session on Saturday May 27th. You will need to work a minimum of two Saturdays per month, though more is preferred. For the right candidate we may consider someone who can only work June-August.

You will meet at and leave from Adams Park in Roslindale; you do not need to come to the farm. You will assist with all aspects of unloading the truck, setting up the stand, creating displays, restocking products, selling to the public, breaking down the stand, and packing the truck at the end of the day. You may assist with any other tasks that may come up at market such as making signs and record keeping.

You will work under the direction of Brookwood staff, primarily the Assistant Manager. You will assist in supervising our volunteer workers that help out at the market.

Compensation
You will be paid $11/hour, produce from the stand, and discounts on produce we resell from other farms such as fruit and corn. You will also earn paid sick time in accordance with Massachusetts law.

Brookwood Community Farm grows diversified vegetables and flowers on 8 acres of land on 3 different sites in Milton and Canton, MA. Using organic methods (not certified) we provide produce for a 230-member CSA, a weekly farmer’s market, food access markets, and donations to local food pantries. As a non-profit community farm we are open to the public and offer educational and volunteer opportunities for our CSA members, youth and corporate groups.
