Cut Flower Supervisor

Hutchins Farm is seeking a part-time individual with some experience cultivating, harvesting and arranging cut flowers to help us manage our small cut-flower operation. The work will involve most aspects of cut flower production, including some propagation and greenhouse work, planting, hoeing/weeding, harvest, and making bouquets. The Cut Flower Supervisor will often work independently, but will be assisted by members of the field crew or other farm employees when appropriate. Applicants should be able to repeatedly lift 50+ lbs.

Once harvest season begins, the Cut Flower Supervisor schedule will involve twice weekly harvest, with an early, light harvest for sales of single variety bunches during the week, and a more aggressive harvest and bouquet assembling period for weekend farmstand and farmer’s market sales. We would anticipate a three or three and a half day per week schedule, perhaps Monday, Thursday and Friday with occasional weekend hours. Hourly pay begins at $10/hour with a $1 per-hour-worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of contract, plus vegetables and flowers from the farm. Housing is not available.

Hutchins Farm is one of the oldest and largest certified organic vegetable and fruit operations in Massachusetts. Organic since 1973, Hutchins grows over 25 acres of vegetables, about an acre of small fruit, 10 acres of apples, and about an acre of cut flowers. We sell our produce directly to consumers at our farm stand in Concord, MA, and at three weekly farmers’ markets, with a small amount of sales to local restaurants.
