Getting Started on the Land Classes

Four part course for learning to live with the land.

Do you want to live more fully with your land?  Starting a small farm or homestead? Our class series is offered on our diverse, working, animal-powered farmstead. Teaching from our experience and with our living farm as the learning space: come see, feel, and experience what you need to get started in this four part series

Getting started with:

  1. Soils – the foundation, and the next primary layer: land-shaping  - keylines, swales, berms, terraces, stonewalls, earthworks and heat sinks.  July 5th, 2015.
  2. Perennial plantings, and biochar: edible tree crops, berries, orchards and savannas.  Making and using biochar from small scale units – how to increase your fertility exponentially.  July 12th, 2015.
  3. Poultry and grazers: chicks, meat birds, layers, ducks, turkeys, sheep goats, cows and pigs.  Natural health care, fencing, housing, grazing, feeding.  July 19th, 2015.
  4. Human scale farm power and draft animals: oxen and horses.  Setting up infrastructure, tools, equipment, building design, roads, fencing and whole work systems.  July 26th, 2015.il)

All 4 Classes run from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM  - Sundays in July -5th, 12th, 19th, 26th  2015
